“Opening” is the first movement of Philip Glass’s Glassworks (1982), one of the composer’s most widely performed works and a touchstone of American minimalism. Built on a gently arpeggiated, repeating figure, it has been transcribed for piano, string ensemble, and now guitar duo. This arrangement by Dr. Sam Desmet keeps the piece’s interlocking arpeggios and slow harmonic motion within the idiomatic range of two guitars.
