Carcassi Reimagined
Carcassi Reimagined is a guitar duo project by Sam Desmet and composer Troy Gifford, offering a bold reinterpretation of Matteo Carcassi’s Op. 60 études for two guitars.
Through this ongoing collaboration, the duo explores the dialogue between classical tradition and modern creativity, transforming familiar studies into expressive, fully realized concert works that invite listeners to rediscover them in a fresh light.
Carcassi composed the 25 Études Mélodiques Progressives, Op. 60 around 1836 as a companion to his own guitar method. Nearly two centuries later, the collection remains one of classical guitar’s most enduring pedagogical works: each study targets a specific technical challenge, from arpeggios and slurs to position work and legato playing, yet none reads as a mere exercise. That balance of technical purpose and real musical substance is what Carcassi Reimagined sets out to carry forward for two guitars.

Études Nos. 3, 7, 8, and 10 have each been featured in Fingerstyle Guitar Journal, one further point of reference for teachers and players sizing up the collection.
