About Guitar+

art collaboration Interdisciplinary artist

Collaboration as an instrument

  • Guitar+ is an ongoing artistic project led by classical guitarist Sam Desmet. It explores how the classical guitar can interact with other art forms — dance, gastronomy, visual art, improvisation — to create performances that engage more than just the ears.
  • Each collaboration invites audiences to cross into a new world: movement, flavor, color, texture. The goal is not only artistic experimentation, but audience exchange — bringing fans of one discipline into contact with another, and building a shared cultural experience.
  • Artist collaboration within Guitar+ not only pushes the boundaries of traditional performance but also encourages audience growth, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and artistic discovery. Each project allows fans of one art form to explore another, enhancing the overall artistic landscape.

“The guitar becomes a voice inside a larger conversation.” — Sam Desmet

GASTRONOMY

A multisensory concert pairing live performance with Michelin Star Chef David Bertolozzi — exploring how sound, flavor, and pacing can be composed together.

ICEDYEING

Music and color in real time. With visual artist Sayaka Asai, melting ice and pigment generate evolving patterns as the guitar shapes the atmosphere.

Sound in Motion

  • This collaboration with dance artist Mary Katakura blends classical guitar performance with improvised movement. Each performance becomes a live conversation — melody answering gesture, rhythm triggering physical response. Audiences experience music not just as sound, but as motion in space.
  • These sessions are never repeated the same way twice. They’re created in the moment, in dialogue, and disappear — like true chamber music, but across disciplines.

Music you can taste

  • In collaboration with Michelin Star Chef David Bertolozzi, Guitar+ becomes a multisensory dining performance. Courses and pieces are paired intentionally — tempo, timbre, harmony, and plating are treated as part of one arc.
  • The result is an evening where sound, aroma, and flavor are staged together, inviting the audience to listen the way they taste, and taste the way they listen.
  • The harmonious fusion of music and gastronomy flavors created an immersive experience, offering solace and joy during these challenging times.

Working with visual artist Sayaka Asai, this series merges live performance with the slow transformation of pigment, ice, and fabric. Patterns emerge organically as the music unfolds, so the visual art becomes a kind of living score — revealing texture, density, and release.

  • It’s an exploration of how sound can shape color, and how color can reshape the way we listen.

Listeners can view the captivating short animation by Sayaka Asai while streaming the single “Komoriuta” exclusively on their smartphones.
